Nydia-Mae Ash Parade Outfit — Nydia-Mae at the parade

Nydia-Mae is currently in Pervaza’s 361st hunger games, along with my tribute Gunnhild. The games are about to post strategies. Her younger sister (Nicoletta) is friends with one of my other tributes, Ivy, who competed in the previous games.

Nydia-Mae and her siblings lived a normal life in district twelve. Though that all went south when her parents perished in a house fire when Nydia-Mae was seven. For a while, Nydia-Mae and her brother and sister lived on the street, in the poorest part of the district. Many pitied them, even though some of them clearly saw the Nydia-Mae and her six year old sister and brother who had barely turned eighteen, and didn’t even bother to do nothing about it. She and Nicoletta were briefly a target of bullying, though it was very brief. She had the reputation of being half-starved and skin whiter than the snow which occasionally landed in district twelve. When her brother found a house in the seam, they were overjoyed to finally have somewhere to stay. This unfortunately meant their brother (Nathaniel) had to drop out of school to help Nydia-Mae and her sister Nicoletta. They managed like this for a while. When Nathaniel married into an upper class family, their life changed. After Nathaniel’s daughter Natalia was born, Nathaniel’s wife passed away. After that, his Nathaniel’s wife’s parents cut contact, and the Ash family had to go back to the seam. Shortly after Nydia-Mae turned thirteen, Nathaniel had been diagnosed with leukaemia. Nydia-Mae began to become the main provider for the Ash family. She also took care of Natalia, worked an extra shift at the mine and took tesserae to support their family. Nicoletta’s friend Ivy had also offered to help through tesserae. When Ivy was reaped two years later, the Ash’s feared for the worst. When Ivy passed, Nicoletta was close to ending her own life, as she felt responsible for Ivy’s death. Nydia-Mae had chased Nicoletta to an abandoned mine shaft, and she talked her out of it. The next year, Nydia Mae was reaped.

Pervaza’s 361st games

At the tribute parade, Nydia-Mae wears a dress the colour of ash and coal. While on her chariot, she succeeds in winning over the crowd with her charm, making herself as one of the top favourites.

During training, Nydia-Mae allied with Gunnhild, Pyro from district three, Cyra from district nine, and Mo from district six. She received a 9 as her training score. Their Alliance is called ‘the crafters’.

After the tributes had entered the arena and the gong sounded, Nydia-Mae attempted to find her Allies. Spotting Cyra, outnumbered, fighting the careers, Nydia-Mae instantly went to aid her. After Nydia-Mae distracts the career fighting Cyra, she notices that Cyra as positioned herself on top of the cornucopia. When the careers spot her again, they take a blow onto Cyra, killing her. One of career’s attention shifts towards Nydia-Mae. She begins to repeatedly expose Nydia-Mae to flame. In the nick of time, Pyro is able to save her from the careers. They run towards a safe hiding spot, even though Nydia-Mae is still injured. Unfortunately, they can’t find Mo and Gunnhild by the time the day ends.

After receiving burn cream as a sponsor gift, Nydia-Mae is mostly healed from her burn injuries, though her ankle is still slightly broken. After searching the building for supplies, she could only find herself and Pyro some sandwiches, but it was better than not eating. After Gunnhild and Mo find them, they embrace in a massive hug. Gunnhild offers to hide their motorcycles while the other three start to talk. When Gunnhild didn’t return, Nydia-Mae, Pyro and Mo went searching for her. They were horrified to find the young girl’s body next to their motorcycles. Mo tries to be optimistic, trying to tell them that one of them will DEFINITELY win the games, while Pyro and Nydia-Mae try to fight back their tears.

The next morning, during the games ‘fight nights’ Nydia-Mae makes her way up to the ring, anticipating her fight with Mockingjay Everdeen. She had been sponsored a blowgun, which she didn’t entirely know how to use. This would have been perfect for Ivy… she thought. Nydia-Mae successfully stays alive for the first few minutes, though is eventually killed, placing 13th, just shy of the top half.

Trivia/Inspiration & Etymology:[]

Her name was inspired by a character called Nydia, from the last days of Pompeii, although her character has nothing to do with Nydia-Mae personality wise.
Her second first name inspired by the word Mãe in Portuguese, which means mother, as Nydia-Mae acts like the parent in her family.
Her second first name was also inspired by the singer Mae Muller.
Her last name is rather ironic, considering her parents death was a the hands of a fire
